More than 13,500 employees of the subordinate courts in the state are on strike demanding the implementation of the Shetty Commission recommendations on their pay and perks.
Meanwhile, the registrar general of the high court informed the court that it had requested the government to provide the financial approval and work force to restore work in the lower courts. The district judge while issuing warning to the striking employees of action said alternative arrangements are being made to recruit the para legal volunteers, home guards and retired employees in place of the striking employees. District court said letter has been sent to the collector requisitioning 250 lower division clerks (LDCs) and same number of peons and 100 stenos.
The division bench of Justice Ajay Rastogi and J K Ranka asked the advocate general to secure requisite financial approval from the government for the alternative arrangements. The advocate general said it would cost Rs 3.5 crore and government had in principle agreed for the same.
The court also asked for a report from the Registrar General by 4 pm on Tuesday about the restoration of work in the courts as per its order on Friday.
